Gheens author Carrie Delatte has written her first mystery and detective novel, “Southern Hospitality.” |
Carrie Delatte, a 29-year-old Gheens author, announced the nationwide release of her first mystery and detective novel, “Southern Hospitality.”
Delatte said the book became available for purchase at Barnes & Noble and Amazon on Nov. 11, and in the coming weeks, it also will be sold at several local bookstores.
Ten percent of the book’s proceeds will go to the Tourette Syndrome Association, which raises awareness, conducts research and offers resources to those with the neurological disorder.
Delatte, who was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome at age 7, said writing has helped her through life following her diagnosis.
“Writing is more or less therapy for me,” she said. “I’ve done it my whole life. It’s a way to deal with having Tourette’s and the symptoms of it.”
The plot of “Southern Hospitality” focuses on Blythe Delaune, a young local history teacher, who falls in love with a man from New Orleans, but her life comes to a halt when she encounters an unknown supernatural force.
“She ends up finding the love of her life after many losses, and she must face an unknown evil to save the life of the man she loves and life in Louisiana,” she said. “She finds out the truth about her own lineage and exactly what she is capable of, and she uses her strong Southern background to save the way of life that she loves about the South.”
Blythe is drawn to Willow Ridge Plantation, and while plantations are often a “place of beauty and heritage,” Delatte said this planation house is an anomaly.
