Echoskepsi, Coproskepsi,Paliskepsi

Mental tics are similar to that of other kinds of tic as they are involuntary and commonly repetitive.

Since there are not yet any technical medical terms for mental tics, the suffix skepsi, the Greek word for thought/thinking will be used.

Echoskepsi

Echoskepsi is the mental form of echolalia. Those affected will hear the last few words spoken by another echoed in their minds. It appears to be a very common mental tic.

Coproskepsi

Coproskepsi is the mental form of coprolalia. Coproskepsi is immeasurably less disruptive than coprolalia. The thinking of socially unacceptable phrases is mildly frustrating becoming worse when it is combined with paliskepsi. It can bring about the worries of a change to coprolalia.

Paliskepsi

Paliskepsi is the repetition of one’s own thoughts and is the mental form of palilalia. Paliskepsi can make thinking quite difficult as it can cause a phrase or single word to be repeated many times or repeat the beginning and making you rephrase the thought using different stresses.

As far as I could tell, it (alongside other derivations) has never been published in a corpus or used in an academic context, and its first usage on the internet was on this blog, leading me to believe that it was coined in this post.

  3. These terms are really helpful! I had tics all my life and kinda assumed it was just my OCD (diagnosed at 12) but then I learned OCD itself doesn't cause tics, but that tic disorders are common with it. I have subtle physical tics multiple times daily and experience all three of these mental tics listed here!
