Bhang

Lord Shiva
Bhang  is a drink made from the leaves and buds of the cannabis plant and milk or yogurt along with spices, ghee and almonds or other nuts. Bhang has been used has an intoxicant for centuries in India and is distributed as an offering during some festivals.The drink is associated with the Hindu deity  Lord Shiva and is now synonymous with the festival Holi to the point where it is standard practice to drink Bhang.



There is no stigma attached to drinking Bhang or any cannabis product. It is consumed year round with a mark increase during Holi. Some estimates that sales increase up to four times the normal average.

People can be seen drinking Bhang on the streets or watch Hindu holy men walk around smoking out of a chillum with the Hindu deity pictured onto the side.Cannabis products can only be bought from government approved shops and vendors


Also available during Holi are Bhang golis or balls which is powered cannabis mixed with water, some Bhang balls are sweetened.

Bhang lassi sometimes called a cannabis milkshake, is a preparation of lassi, a yogurt based drink, with Bhang and can also be found sold during Holi. It is either drunk at room temperature or chilled.

Bhang has been in the Hindu culture since 1000 B.C E. It is described as a stress releaser in scriptures of ancient India.

Bhang termed medically as Cannabis sativa is widely used in traditional Hindu medicine.It is used to relieve stress and anxiety as well as aid in inducing sleep,treating nausea,pain,vomiting,weight loss,fever and more.
